In the QS World University Ranking published recently, the University of Bayreuth has placed well above average, internationally, in terms of criteria decisive for academic quality and internationality. This year, the ranking published by QS Quacquarelli Symonds evaluated more than 5,500 universities around the world. This overall ranking effectively places the University of Bayreuth in the top 10 percent of all universities. Traditionally, the QS published ranking has been led by universities and colleges in the USA and East Asia.
A central criterion for the quality and global impact of a university’s research is the frequency with which its scientific publications are cited in the scientific community and beyond. The QS Ranking comes to the conclusion that researchers at the University of Bayreuth are cited about 50 percent more frequently than the global average. Its internationality is also most pronounced: According to the QS Ranking, the proportion of foreign scientists who teach and conduct research in Bayreuth is significantly higher than the global mean. The same applies to the proportion of foreign students. In addition, the University of Bayreuth scores very well in the category of individual support of students in this worldwide comparison. Here, the favourable ratio of lecturers to students shows that, in Bayeuth, the principle of “quality over quantity” well and truly applies.
