The ongoing efforts of the Université de Montréal community in the area of sustainable development have made it stand out internationally. The Impact ranking published today by Times Higher Education evaluates the actions of more than 1,000 universities around the world with regard to development objectives set by the United Nations. This year, UdeM was ranked 39th, in particular for its greening and biodiversity protection projects, as well as for its many partnerships with other communities. This recognition is in addition to others obtained by the university, including STARS Silver certification and an excellent score from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, in the biodiversity-and-land-management category.
“The rankings released today show that we are on the right track,” said UdeM rector Daniel Jutras. “Several innovative projects have been carried out in recent years to amplify the positive effects of our actions. I am thinking, for example, of the MIL campus ephemeral projects, the Darlington Ecological Corridor and the L’extension centre. Other major projects will come to fruition in the years to come, such as the redevelopment of the university’s principal campus, which will be greener and more open to the surrounding communities. The University of Montreal’s actions in the area of sustainable development are concrete and constantly evolving. I congratulate and thank all the members of our community who are taking part.”
