University of Waikato is pleased to announce a new agreement with Hainan University in China to deliver a joint programme in Computer Science.
The programme, “Hainan University and the University of Waikato Undergraduate Joint Education Program in Smart Science and Technology” will accept up to 120 students each year. It will be jointly delivered by University of Waikato and Hainan University academics. After the completion of the programme, students will get a degree from both institutions.
University of Waikato Vice-Chancellor Professor Neil Quigley says the agreement deepens the teaching and scientific research cooperation between the two universities.
“Last year, we started our partnership with the establishment of Waikato University’s learning centre at Hainan University so our students can enjoy all facilities provided by the university while attending online classes. The learning centre is running successfully and we are thankful to Hainan for the support they are providing to our students.
“This year, we also signed an agreement with Hainan University for a progression programme leading to Masters in the area of Tourism. We expect recruitment for this programme to start in 2023.”
The University of Waikato has a strong reputation for working with partners in China and globally. The longest collaboration in China has been for 27 years, with Shanghai International Studies University.
“We are proud to provide teaching and research of international standing across every one of the diverse academic programmes offered by the University,” says Professor Quigley. “We place great emphasis on providing a high quality, flexible learning environment for all students.”
The signing of the new arrangement was a virtual experience due to the global pandemic, but the programme courses will all be delivered face-to-face. Students will have an opportunity to come to New Zealand to complete part of their study.
