Professor Jennifer Balint has been appointed the Dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Melbourne.
Professor Balint started at the University of Melbourne in 2002 as a lecturer in Socio-Legal Studies, pioneering the first Socio-Legal Studies program in Australia.
During her time Professor Balint has held several leadership roles at the University of Melbourne, including Discipline Chair of Criminology and, most recently, Head of the School of Social and Political Sciences.
She is a graduate of Macquarie University and in 2002 attained a PhD from the Australian National University. Professor Balint’s academic practice and leadership is deeply rooted in an ethos of partnership and collaboration.
Her appointment follows an international search and selection process.
Professor Balint said: “It’s an honour to serve as Dean of the Faculty of Arts and I’m deeply committed to leading a collective conversation with staff and students across the Faculty as it moves into its next phase.”
Professor Balint will start in the role from 13 July, taking over from Professor Lesley Stirling, who has been acting as Interim Dean since the start of the year.
