Mark your calendar and prepare to be inspired! SXSW Sydney 2024 is heading back in October and The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) is proud to be announced as Education Partner for the week-long event.

It will be the second consecutive year that UTS has teamed up with SXSW Sydney, underlining UTS’s commitment to fostering innovation, creativity and thought leadership.

The SXSW Sydney Festival celebrates new ideas and innovations in music, film, gaming and technology. With over 1,000 sessions and events, it aims to bring together creative people from around the globe to meet, learn and share ideas.

Professor Andrew Parfitt, UTS Vice-Chancellor and President, said UTS was honoured to continue the partnership with SXSW Sydney and once again showcase the university and Sydney’s Tech Central precinct.

“This collaboration not only strengthens our commitment to fostering the creative industries and innovation but also provides our students and staff with a wonderful opportunity to engage with and contribute to one of the most influential events worldwide.”

The collaboration with UTS is set to bring dynamic panel discussions, workshops, live music and interactive sessions onto campus, including at the Underground (music), UTS Building 8 and the UTS Tower, from 14-20 October.

UTS House will again be at the heart of activities, featuring a range of exciting public and private events for the SXSW Sydney crowd and the SXSW Sydney curious.

UTS speakers include renowned climate scientist Chris Turney, accounting educator and YouTube star Amanda White OAM, behavioural data scientist Marian-Andrei Rizoiu, and tech policy expert Sophie Farthing, with more to be announced.

Radical restaurateur and UTS alumnus Shaun Christie-David, founder and CEO of Plate It Forward – a Sydney-based hospitality group with a mission to provide food relief, training and employment opportunities – will also be a guest speaker.

UTS students will have special access to the festival via wristbands to Gaming, Music and Screen events, as well as the opportunity to win tickets to attend the full conference.

As part of the partnership, there will be a design competition exclusively for UTS Students to design official SXSW Sydney merchandise. Winning designs will be available to purchase during the event. More information of the competition can be found here.

UTS students will also have the opportunity to intern with SXSW Sydney and get real-world experience in conference and major festival programming.

And don’t forget to head down to nearby Tumbalong Park, where there will be a free, open to the public space for anyone SXSW curious.
