The University of Guelph Library and the Scottish Studies Department will host an exhibit opening in honour of the Clan Leslie; The Clan Leslie: A Celebration of 950 years of Leslies in Scottish History, Literature, and Culture.

McLaughlin Library’s Archival & Special Collections (ASC) is home to a large collection on the Clan Leslie.  This rich, historical repository complements ASC’s distinguished Scottish Studies Collection, which is the largest collection on Scottish history and culture outside of the U.K.  The Clan Leslie Collection includes rare books and archival materials, which document the long history of the Clan from Bartolf, a nobleman from Hungary who came to Scotland in 1067, to the Leslies of the present day.

This summer, the Clan Leslie will be the featured clan of the Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games. Leslies from across the globe including their Chieftain the Honourable Alexander Leslie will visit Guelph to attend the launch of an exhibition curated by Melissa McAfee, Special Collections Librarian, Ashley Shifflett McBrayne, Library Associate, Judy Wanner, Associate Librarian, and Marian Toledo, a PhD student in Scottish History in their honour. The launch will include remarks and presentations by Dr. James Fraser, Scottish Studies Foundation Chair, Barbara McDonald Associate Chief Librarian, and Melissa McAfee, Special Collections Librarian.

This program will take place on Friday, August 12 at 9:00 am in the Robert Whitelaw Room on the second floor of McLaughlin Library. Refreshments will be provided.  This event is free and open to the public.  For more information, please contact Melissa McAfee (email address), Special Collections Librarian at 519-824-4120 x 58927.
