Get Ready... for First Year Orientation 2016!

Incoming First Year Students and Transfer Students

Move-in Day:  Saturday, August 20

Welcome Day:  Sunday, August 21

Orientation Programming:  Monday, August 22 - Sunday, August 28

Going away to college is a big transition and the Orientation program at Carnegie Mellon is designed to make that transition easier for all first year and transfer students. Orientation is a mandatory weeklong program organized by the Office of Orientation and First Year Programs and current Carnegie Mellon students to introduce incoming students to each other, the campus, academic life and the local community. Over 250 current students will welcome new students to campus and will work hard throughout Orientation to make sure it’s a memorable week and a great introduction to life at Carnegie Mellon.

Move-in to the residence halls will occur on Saturday August 20. More information about the move-in process will be sent later in the summer. The programs and events on Sunday, August 21 will be geared to both students and family members and will include information sessions, a resource fair, ‘Taste of the Tartans’ Luncheon Showcase, college meetings and an overview of student services.  Orientation programming will then be exclusively focused on our new students on Sunday evening and continue from Monday, August 22 through Sunday, August 28. The first day of classes will be on Monday, August 29.

Please note that students will not be permitted to move into the residence halls prior to Saturday, August 20.  Students and family members will receive detailed information about move-in and Orientation during the summer months.

NOTE: We will welcome new international students as they move in with their first year classmates on Saturday, August 20.  International students must attend a mandatory immigration check-in which will take place during the Welcome Day activities on Sunday, August 21.  The Office of International Education will provide additional details about this session and other sessions of particular relevance to international students and their families in the coming months.
